How do Silicone Scar Sheets work?

Silicone Scar Sheets mimic the natural barrier function of healthy skin, diminishing scars both old and new, and restoring skin to a more natural texture and color. Research suggests that silicone hydrates scar tissue, softening the scar, reducing its development and causing it to fade away. Silicone Scar Sheets also protect the delicate scar area and help relieve the itching, burning and pain that can accompany scars.

Silicone Scar Sheets are breathable, flexible, and durable and are used by plastic surgeons, hospitals, clinics and burn centers around the world.

What types of scars can be treated?

Silicone Scar Sheets work on hypertrophic scars and keloids, which have a raised and discolored appearance and are usually stiffer than the surrounding skin. These types of scars may result from surgical procedures, skin injuries and burns. Hypertrophic scars remain within the boundaries of the original injury, while keloids extend beyond the original injury site, involving the surrounding skin. Both types of scars are often tender, itchy, and even painful, and depending on their location can impact mobility.

Silicone Scar Sheets are effective on old as well as recent scars and help to soften, fade, reduce and smooth so the scar appears closer to your skin€š¬€ž¢s natural color and texture.

How to Use

  • Wash hands before use.
  • Clean the scar and surrounding skin with mild soap, rinse in clean warm water and carefully dry the scar and surrounding skin
  • Remove the backing from one side of the silicone scar sheet
  • Place the sheet on the skin ensuring all scar tissue is covered overlapping slightly onto the surrounding skin. The sheet can be cut to a smaller size if needed or multiple sheets can be placed side by side for larger areas
  • Remove the remailing backing film
  • Wash the silicone scar sheet, scar and surrounding skin twice daily using mild soap and rinse in clean warm water. Allow silicone scar sheet to dry naturally. Paper products should be avoided to prevent contamination of the silicone scar sheet. Once dry the silicone scar sheet can be reapplied
  • The silicone scar sheet should be replaced once it begins to deteriorate or cleaing becomes difficult
  • Silicone scar sheets are ideal for use on any part of the body such as the face, ears, neck, scalp, arms, hands, and joint areas

Duration

  • Use the gel sheet for around 4hrs daily and increase by 2hrs every 2 days up to the optimal duration of 24hrs per day usage
  • Treatment duration will vary from person to person and will depend on the severity of scarring. An effective cosmetic effect can normally be expected within 2-4 months of continuous therapy however individual results can vary.

Important

  • For newly healed wounds, you can use silicone scar sheets as soon as the skin is healed and there is no weeping, leaking or crusting in the area. Treatment for post surgical scars may typically begin 1-2 weeks after stitches are removed or when cleared by your physician or surgeon for use. For existing scars, treatment can be started right away, provided the skin is fully healed
  • In warm weather or during increased physical activity, the silicone scar sheets should be cleaned more regularly
  • If rash or irritation occurs then reduce the daily therapy time. If rash or irritation persists then stop use and consult your health care provider

  • DO NOT USE ON OPEN WOUNDS, OR WOUNDS THAT HAVE NOT FULLY HEALED.

  • DO NOT USE IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO MEDICAL GRADE SILICONE
